Internet Explorer 6.0 has every imaginable control needed for cookies, but you’ll have to manually tweak settings to free yourself of pop-up ad windows if you find them annoying. Once you identify the site serving pop-up ads, simply add them to Internet Explorer’s Restricted Sites:

  1. Click on the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click the Restricted Sites icon.
  4. Click the Sites button.
  5. Type the URL of the Website you want to disallow.
  6. Click OK, and then click OK again.

You will no longer see pop-up ad windows from the site you’ve just entered into the Restricted Sites zone.
