Home Networking with a network hub |
|
If you are using a network hub, which connects multiple computers at a central location, make sure you connect your broadband connection directly to a network adapter on the Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) host computer, not the hub. The hub should only be connected to computers on your network, not to any broadband devices, such as DSL or cable modems. For example, if you have DSL or a cable modem, the cable from your DSL device or cable modem should connect to a network adapter on your ICS computer. This gives the ICS host computer access to the broadband Internet connection. Use a second cable to connect a second network adapter in the ICS host computer to the network hub. This allows other computers on your network to see the ICS computer, and gain access to the Internet via that computer. By using two network adapters in the ICS host computer, you achieve greater security by restricting unauthorized direct access to your home network from users via your broadband Internet connection. |
